Ateneo Day is St. Francis Xavier Day.
As the school honored on the 3rd of December 2018 its patron saint, St. Francis Xavier, the Ateneo community added to its list of outreach recipients the residents of Tigaon, Camarines Sur Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the pupils of Morada Ramos Elementary School in Carolina, Naga City.
“The expansion of the school’s outreach to Tigaon BJMP residents is on its exploratory phase and we hope this to continue in the following years,” says Fr. Angelo “Boboy” Silerio, S.J., Junior High School Principal. Fr. Silerio has said masses in Tigaon BJMP as an apostolate together with other religious organizations in the archdiocese.
The JHS outreach to the Tigaon BJMP was organized by the Office of the Coordinator Community Program (CCP) under Ms. Gemma Moreno. For the meantime, only the faculty and staff of the JHS participated in the outreach to the inmates. The JHS team was joined by volunteer students of the College of Nursing of the Ateneo de Naga University and the drivers and operators of the Ateneo Transport Services Association.
The outreach started with a Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr. Silerio. A short program followed shortly with speeches from the school officials and the BJMP administration and the residents presenting talent numbers. The outreach was concluded by the distribution of hygiene kits and lunch to the residents.
Meanwhile, student organizations held their outreach activities at the Morada Ramos Elementary School at Carolina Elementary School where their played games and distributed food among the pupils.
The annual outreach activities mark the feast day of the great saint co-founder of the Society of Jesus, Francis Xavier, who, in his lifetime, evangelized and brought thousands into the Christian faith in Asia. (M. Tatel; Photos by Ms. Myrna Fullante & Mr. Hilton Nepomuceno)
