In the third year of the province-wide contest, the pair of Grade 6 pupils from Pili West Central School won the 1st place in the Ateneo de Naga Junior High School-sponsored United Nations Quiz Bee held at the Activity Center of SM City Naga on 13 October 2018.
Ken Ezekiel Bulalacao and Jethro Elano of Pili West Central School bagged the top prize after the elimination and final rounds. Trailing after them in second and third places were Jenrey Alvarez and Leonard Mark Espino of Montessori Children’s House of Learning-Naga; and Alexander Dasigan and San Chai Maliberan of Sabang Elementary School-Calabanga.
The quiz bee comprised of two parts: the paper-and-pen elimination round and the final quiz bee round. As each school fielded two contestants, their scores were averaged. The top 10 schools with highest average scores proceeded to the final round where partners raised answers written on boards. The following were highest scorers in the paper-and-pen elimination round: John Louie Zate of Nabua West Central School, Ken Ezekiel Bulalacao of Pili West Central School, and Fate Angel Bricia of Agdangan Elementary School.
The U.N. Quiz Bee was a joint effort of the Junior High School Debate Society and the Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) Department. Ms. Christine Panen of the AP Department and Mr. Rey Cecilia, the JHS Debate Varsity moderator and trainer, co-organized the Quiz Bee which formed
Over 80 participants from schools in Camarines Sur and Naga City Division joined the event.
