In this special day honoring the teachers in the world; the administration, faculty, and staff of the Ateneo de Naga
Junior High School were blessed and prayed over by the students during the First Friday Mass in honor of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, a tradition observed in all Jesuit schools.
“Pray for your teachers. Pray for all your teachers, even for those whom you do not like,” Fr. Celerino Ignacio Reyes, the mass presider who is the Superior of the all the Jesuits in Naga City.
At the beginning of the Eucharistic celebration, the whole community recited the Prayer for Teachers from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Towards the end of the liturgy, all the teachers and staff were requested at the stage by the mass presider as the students raised their hands for praying over.
Explaining the Book of Job and drawing parallelism between the events in the book and the people’s experiences, Fr. Reyes encouraged everyone “to trust in God and trust in his mercy, the way Job did.”
The community’s consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus concluded the rites before the final blessing. The devotion to the Sacred Heart is entrusted to the Society of Jesus after its approval from the Vatican. With St. Claude de la Colombiere, a Jesuit French saint, was the spiritual director of the Sacred Heart visionary, St. Mary Margarette Alacoque.
