The traditional Living Rosary paraliturgy held at the Covered Courts concluded the celebration of October Devotion which dedicates the 10th month to Blessed Mother by wearing the Miraculous Medal and praying the decades and mysteries of the rosary in all class periods.
The officers of the Ateneo de Naga Student Government (ANSGO), class representatives and new members of the faculty and staff, represented the beads, recited the prayers assigned to each of the bead. The ANSGO Big 5 represented the preliminary five prayers of the Rosary. The faculty and staff representatives were the prayers of the Mystery of Sorrow. In between them were the decades (10 beads) of the Rosary represented by all students from Grades 7 to 10. Each of these representatives recited prayers and entered the middle portion of the Covered Courts carrying vigil candles, symbol of prayers lifted to the Divine.
In a solemn procession, the Nicene Creed was recited as the processional cross entered the middle portion of the Covered Courts and placed at the center of the seats shaped like a heart. After the five preliminary prayers, the cross was followed by the procession of the image of the Blessed Mother under her title, Mary, Help of Christians.
The paraliturgy led by Fr. Angelo ‘Boboy’ Silerio SJ, requested everyone to pray for the Grade 10 students and for the success of the forthcoming second mid-term examination.
A recent change in conducting the Living Rosary was the inclusion of the Biblical passages from which the mysteries of the Rosary were lifted from. Passages from the New Testament were read in succession after every bead of the decade was recited.
Marian songs in Bikol, Tagalog and English started every decade of the Mysteries of Sorrow. The paraliturgy ended with the singing of the solemnis version of the Salve Regina and the recitation of the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (M. Tatel)
